To stimulate economic growth, employment and skill development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through entrepreneurship, enterprise development and technology commercialization in the information and communications technology sector.
Strategic Course
On its current strategic course, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia wishes to transform its economy into a knowledge-based, technology economy that stimulates continuous innovation and development. Thus the need arose to invest in a number of priority technologies and assist the development of its marketable science and technology applications that fulfill market and society needs.
The commercialization of technology through business spinoffs and the creation of small technology businesses is an effective instrument for economic growth. Information and communication technology is a key industry sector to develop as it also is a support industry for other technology industry sectors.
Technology incubators are key elements in the innovation system of successful technology-based economies and therefore King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) initiative of creating a national technologyincubator program (BADIR).
BADIR will assist the transfer of technology created in laboratories and from individual market driven ideas into business opportunities to exploit local and international markets. BADIR-ICT is the first technology incubator established focusing on the Information and Communications (ICT) sector.
The BADIR-ICT project is supported by Canberra-based CREEDA Projects Ltd, who are international consultants in the field of incubation and entrepreneurship.
